Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has spoken out on Pakistan boycotting the group-stage match against India at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The BCCI VP straightforwardly said that the Indian cricket board has no say on the matter.
Pakistan stirred up newfound drama after the T20 World Cup had briefly subsided following Bangladesh's ouster. The PAK government has announced a boycott of their group-stage match against India, which will happen in a neutral venue.
The new controversy has developed significant problems for the ICC, and they are considering taking significant action against the Pakistan Cricket Board for its selective participation in the upcoming tournament.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla has kept mum and has no reaction to Pakistan's boycott of their scheduled group-stage match against one of the co-hosts in Sri Lanka. The VP added that the ICC would decide on the situation and the BCCI would follow whatever decision the higher council makes.
“BCCI has nothing to say on this. ICC has to decide on this, and whatever ICC says, we will go according to that decision,” Rajeev Shukla said.
Pakistan's failure to provide a concrete reason behind its boycott situation has triggered outrage in the global cricketing realm. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also wants PAK to reconsider and avoid selective participation to uphold the sanctity of a world-class tournament.
Team India kicked off its World Cup preparations with a warm-up fixture against South Africa and displayed utter dominance in the competition. Most of their player slooked in-form as they scored 240/6 while batting first. South Africa also looked in a good trajectory but fell 30 runs short of the target, with India sealing the win.
