Chennai: An Indian Air Force (IAF) PC-7 Mk II trainer aircraft crashed in Chennai’s Tambaram on Friday afternoon during a routine training mission. According to the IAF officials, the pilot ejected safely, and no damage to civil property has been reported.

According to the official information, an Indian Air Force Pilatus PC‑7 trainer crashed near Tambaram. The pilot ejected safely, and the IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause.

The IAF uses the Swiss‑built PC‑7s for initial pilot training, having replaced its older HPT‑32 fleet about 15 years ago. A previous PC‑7 accident occurred in December 2023 in Medak, Telangana, which resulted in the deaths of two pilots – an instructor and a cadet.

Further details regarding the crash of the IAF aircraft are awaited.
