New Delhi: An Air India Boeing B777-300ER operating flight AI-507 from Delhi to Bengaluru on February 5, 2026, returned to Delhi airport shortly after take-off following a smoke indication in the forward cargo hold, the airline said.
In a statement, Air India said the crew decided to turn back as a precautionary measure, in line with standard operating procedures. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, after which all passengers and crew disembarked normally.
The airline said that the smoke indication was later found to be false after the aircraft underwent precautionary checks. The aircraft has been taken under maintenance, and the flight was subsequently cancelled.
Air India said its ground team provided immediate assistance to passengers at Delhi airport. Hotel accommodation was arranged, and passengers were offered full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling, depending on their preference. The airline said alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to Bengaluru at the earliest.
“Air India sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen situation” the statement said, adding that the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew remain the airline’s top priority.
