Russian President Wraps Up Two-Day India Visit, Departs for Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the India-Russia Business Forum. The two leaders also gave a joint press conference and held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is in New Delhi on a two-day state visit for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. He attended the India-Russia Business Forum with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders also attended a joint press conference after attending a meeting at Hyderabad House. Earlier in the day, President Putin was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, including a Tri-services Guard of Honour, received by PM Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Following the welcome, Putin visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and signed the visitors’ book.

PM Modi and President Putin held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House. Following a warm handshake, with PM Modi emphasizing that “trust is the biggest strength” in India-Russia relations and reaffirming India’s position in favour of global peace. He also called for boosting bilateral trade and expanding cooperation across sectors.

Putin, in his remarks, said the partnership is deeply rooted in history and highlighted growing opportunities in high technology and strategic cooperation. He also expressed hope for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine and praised the strong groundwork done by both sides ahead of the summit.

The Nation witnessed a rare protocol break as Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed him at Palam airport before hosting a private dinner at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The two leaders held an informal meeting and private dinner at the Prime Minister’s residence where both sides discussed defence cooperation, trade imbalance, Russian oil supplies, and emerging technology partnerships. 

Ahead of the summit, PM Modi and President Putin held a 90-minute one-on-one meeting at Lok Kalyan Marg. President Putin will also launch a new India-focused Russian state media channel and attend the Russia-India Business Forum before concluding the visit with a state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu and departing for Moscow late Friday night.

The delivery, which arrived via a specialised cargo flight operated by Rosatom’s nuclear fuel division, included fuel assemblies manufactured at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant.

The milestone coincides with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day state visit to India, during which nuclear cooperation remains a key pillar of bilateral ties. Further consignments will follow as India progresses with phased expansion of the Kudankulam project, the largest nuclear power facility in the country.

Seven flights to transport the full core and reserve fuel for Units 4, the first VVER-1000 reactors designed to operate on an 18-month fuel cycle.
