The Sasan Gir National Park is an esteemed wildlife destination in India which has attained an immense popularity among vivid travelers, wildlife lovers, photographers, nature enthusiasts, researchers and hunters. It covers total area of 1412 square kilometers of which 258 Km forms the core area of the National Park.
Rajkot Airport is the closest airport to Gir Forest National Park, located about 167.2 km away. The second closest airport is at Bhavnagar, around 193.4 km away. One can fly to either of the airports and avail a cab, bus or a private vehicle for the further journey. Ahmedabad is approximately 6 hours away.
The best time to visit is during the southwest monsoon arrives. Literally, December to March is the climatically the best season to visit the park. Though, April and May are very hot but considered the best months for wildlife viewing and photography. The protected area of Gir National Park is closed from 16th June to 15th October every year.
Top things to do when you are visiting Gir National Park is- Gir Jungle Trail Safari, Devalia Safari Park, Kankai Safari Gir and bird watching. Apart from Asiatic Lions, you can also spot jackals, crocodiles, eagles, owls and many others. If you want to explore the sights in comfort, three days will be needed.
