Team India suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. It was a high-stacked match-up where both teams vied for the semi-final spot. Batting first Australia posted 151/8 in 20 overs. India in reply had a brisk start and were alive until the final over. However, as pressure mounted, nerves got the better of the team and eventually, they lost the game by 9 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, on Sunday. The captain of the Indian team, Harmanpreet Kaur, who amassed a well-made 54, was left stranded at the non-striker's end for the most part in the final over.
Upon winning the encounter Australia Women progressed to the semi-final of the tournament. As for India, the door to the next round has obscured, but it hasn't closed. There is still a chance for India to qualify for the semi-final of the Women's T20 World Cup . India's group encounters have exhausted but courtesy of wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they are still placed second on the Group A table. Thus, they are in the zone to qualify, but only just.
The onus is on third-placed New Zealand to finish the job. Should they beat Pakistan in their remaining league match, then they will seamlessly storm into the semi-final. Howbeit, in case Pakistan carve out a victory over the Kiwis then Team India will once again come into the picture. Thus, India's hopes will lie with Pakistan now.
Since India have a superior Net Run Rate compared to New Zealand, just Pakistan 's victory will be enough to push India to the next stage. Hence, all eyes would be on tomorrow's Pakistan W vs New Zealand W match in the Women's T20 World Cup match. The game will begin at 7:30 PM IST and will be held at the Dubai International Stadium.
