Putin Confirms Testing Poseidon, Russia’s Nuclear-Powered Torpedo

Russia has confirmed the successful test of its Poseidon nuclear-powered torpedo, a weapon reportedly capable of travelling thousands of kilometers underwater and carrying a massive nuclear warhead. Announced by President Vladimir Putin, the test marks the first activation of the torpedo’s nuclear propulsion system after being launched from a submarine.

Known by NATO as “Kanyon,” Poseidon can reportedly reach speeds of 185 km/h and has a range of about 10,000 km. Designed to create radioactive ocean waves and destroy coastal cities, this weapon represents a new phase in global nuclear strategy.

The Poseidon’s development follows the U.S. withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2001 and highlights Russia’s ongoing effort to bypass Western missile defense. Along with the Burevestnik nuclear cruise missile and Sarmat ICBM, Poseidon forms part of Russia’s next-generation nuclear arsenal.
