A strong 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Bangladesh near Narsingdi at 10:08 am IST, shaking buildings and triggering panic in several cities. At least six people were killed and many others injured after scaffoldings and railings collapsed during the tremors.
The quake was felt across West Bengal and Northeast India, including Kolkata and Salt Lake, where residents and office-goers rushed outside in fear. No structural damage has been reported in West Bengal so far, but authorities including the IMD and NCS are monitoring the possibility of aftershocks.
