Are Indian Students Safe Abroad? Violence Against Indians Rising in the US and UK

Growing violent attacks on Indian nationals in the US, UK, and other Western countries have sparked major concerns among students and parents about safety abroad. Recent cases — including the stabbing of Vijay Sheoran in England, along with workplace murders and campus shootings across the US — have intensified alarm over the risks Indian students are facing.

Despite the US hosting more than a million international students, enrollment declined by 7% in 2024, with gun violence becoming a central fear among families, particularly from India and China. The incidents have prompted urgent questions about the safety of Indian youth pursuing education in foreign countries.
