The BJP launched a sharp attack on the Congress after controversial slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi were reportedly raised during a recent rally. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, speaking in the Lok Sabha on December 11, accused the Congress of encouraging language that amounted to death threats against the Prime Minister. He cited chants such as “Modi teri kabr khudegi,” calling them deeply offensive and demanded a public apology from senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, for lowering the standards of political discourse and harming parliamentary decorum.
Rijiju also recalled a 2014 incident when Prime Minister Modi had compelled a BJP MP to apologise for making inappropriate remarks, stressing that political rivals should never be treated as enemies. BJP President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda echoed the criticism, branding the Congress’s conduct as “low-level politics” and a sign of “mental bankruptcy.” The remarks follow outrage over slogans allegedly wishing death upon the Prime Minister, triggering a major political confrontation during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
