Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury triggered a major controversy after she brought a stray puppy into the Parliament premises during the 2025 Winter Session. She said she rescued the pup after finding it near a collision site and brought it to Parliament temporarily before taking it home. However, her remark — “those who bite are inside Parliament” — was perceived as a direct jibe at MPs and ministers, drawing sharp backlash from the BJP.
The BJP condemned her remarks, calling the act disrespectful and an attempt to undermine the dignity of Parliament. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused her of insulting parliamentary staff and lawmakers and demanded a formal apology from the Congress. The episode has further fuelled tensions in Parliament, adding to the BJP’s charge that the opposition is prioritising disruption over constructive debate.
